Terrain: cycle paths all the way (still loving this)
Big day! Reached Flensburg to finish the first major stage of this adventure/challenge, woohoo! From Unieradz where my gran grew up to Flensburg where she arrived by plane before walking 300km to Celle. Amazing feeling because to be perfectly honest, I didn’t really know whether I would get this far. Sounds a little dramatic but it’s true.
I’ve now completed 540km and get to spend a few days relaxing with the German side of my family who are just so kind and welcoming. We’ve only really seen each other a couple of times before but it’s like we’ve known each other forever. Very lucky.
My lovely Uncle Peter even got up especially early (6am) this morning to drive me to my starting point again (Klappholz, a tiny village) before beginning a 12 hour shift at his job. Selfless is an understatement.
I also had the fortune of experiencing German no speed limit motorways in their full glory, going at 200km/hour! I’ve since been told that’s slow!
Like yesterday, today’s run was a really wonderful reflecting on the journey so far and looking forward to family time (and it was sunny). Arriving in Flensburg, felt pretty emotional (again) and then pure happiness.
Flensburg is a georgous town with a beautiful harbour and lovely boats to admire.
Had a little walk around. Not sure what the story is behind this street and the shoes on the wires (not just one or two) but my Aunt Regina’s son, Mick, told me that there is a skater shop and when people bought new shoes they would throw their old ones over the wire. I think it’s just caught on but I like it, it’s all the way along the street.
After what I felt was another well deserved Kaffee und Kuchen (not lacking on little treats!) sitting by the harbour, Regina and Mick arrived.
And then took me to the beach in Denmark, brilliant.
Happy feet, a bit like an ice bath so helping recovery I told myself.
It’s a huge beach on an island called Romo, in fact you actually park your car on the beach itself. Much fun and laughs and being big kids, my kind of day.
Finished off by Danish soft ice cream with chocolate bits, mmmm.

You made it. Wow absolutely incredible. We had so many holidays in Leck as children and the surrounding area. Lovely memories that I am reliving thanks to you my lovely.
