#Day35 Acts of kindness

Morel to Bad Bramstedt – 30km
12C
Terrain: cycle routes and road

It was seriously cold today! I think it must have been about 10C when I started with gale force winds, no joke (especially in summer shorts!). Even had numb fingers at one point. I’m definitely experiencing the extremes of summer weather in northern Europe!

Bob battling the wind.

What’s lovely is that I’ve come across so many generous acts of kindness so far. When I arrived yesterday, the owners of the farm, Anke and Peter Lucht, weren’t around. I bumped into another guest called Yumi (from Hamburg, where I’m heading in the next couple of days – apologies if I’ve spelt your name wrong, I’m useless). He straight away invited me to eat with his daughter and friend and cooked some yummy pasta for us. Such generosity having only just met me. Plus, he spoke amazing English as his mum is from Doncaster, not far from my family in the North-East of England.

Anke and Peter, the farm owners, were lovely and Peter explained to me how the milk industry works over here. Largely as what I think are cooperatives, with about 70% of the industry belonging to them. This is pretty cool as it means that they control the prices unlike in the UK where, as I understand it, dairy farmers are under serious price pressure from super markets. They’re looking to expand the farm so exciting times.

Had a wonderful breakfast with the family and their work colleagues this morning and when I asked to pay, I was only charged a small amount by Peter. Him and his wife liked what I was doing and wanted to help out, so very generous and kind.

It’s a great place to stay, wonderful people and you get to experience a real working farm, a first for me (www.heuhotel-moerel.de), thank you Peter and Anke!

I also received a wonderful post from Bernd, a man I met very briefly in Schleswig, on my blog (day 33) with lots of great advice on places to stay along the way. Thank you Bernd!

Saw this lovely painting along the way, made me smile.

I arrived in Bad Bramstedt this afternoon, quite a modern small town to have a quick wander and then find where I was staying.
