I crossed the 1,000km marker today! Woohoo! I can’t quite believe it. As I’ve mentioned before I undertook this challenge not knowing what it was going to throw at me and just feel so tremendously fortunate to have reached this far. Happy days (and I was back to running).

The Chinese proverb ‘every journey starts with a single step’ couldn’t ring more true.

I’m often asked why I’m doing this challenge. There are many reasons including those linked to my gran but one of them was simply to try something that both scared and inspired me. To see what was possible really.

I’ve spoken about doing many things in the past but for one reason or another, just didn’t do them. Fear probably being the main reason, fear of failing I suppose. But that first step into the unknown, while definitely scary and uncomfortable, can lead to wonderful things. For one, I’m learning more about myself than I ever have before.

When I think back, the times I have felt the most alive and motivated in life have been those where I’ve been way out of my comfort zone and achieved things I didn’t think I was capable of. One example was going to rural Kenya alone a few years ago to undertake some volunteering work. I was scared of so many things at the time but it ended up being one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life.

Today feels like one of those times, awesome.

I know there’s still a long way to go but for me, these little milestones are a real motivator.

Push beyond comfortable and follow your dreams!

Thank you for the amazing support!

And thanks to Ironman Bob for being a fabulous companion up until now.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
