Firstly, I am genuinely overwhelmed by the absolutely incredible support I have received following yesterday’s posts about achieving the initial distance I set out to cover on this challenge. Lots of messages of love, support and positivity on this blog, facebook and instagram. I feel so incredibly grateful and honoured to have such wonderful people in my life. Thank you a million times.
I also received some incredible sponsorship from my friends and family as well as people I don’t know and am just so happy that people are helping support the plight of refugees, who have such an incredibly difficult time.
I received a message on yesterday’s blog post from a man that I met briefly in Rendsburg (Germany) called Bernd and who has so kindly been following my journey. I hope he doesn’t mind but I wanted to share his thoughts as they so closely reflect mine and I think he puts it perfectly.
“The issue of refugees is currently more important than ever. It is essential to take the people’s fear of the foreign and unknown, and to show them that we all live together on a small blue planet in the endless space. This is our common home! Nobody should be a stranger you have to be afraid of, everybody should be a roommate whom we help if he is in trouble.”
I think this is beautiful and so very true, thank you Bernd.
The positive vibes really kept me going today. Legs are beginning to tire and my achilles still isn’t too happy which affects my ability to run, quite frustrating but still making progress.
While the distance wasn’t huge today, there were some absolutely killer climbs, slightly unexpected in terms of how long they lasted and how high I ended up but never mind, it’s supposed to be a challenge!
Started off flat.
And then up we go…

…and ended up here…nice view.
The cool thing was that at the highest point, at the top of that particularly long and grueling climb (photo above), I met this lovely couple, Sarah and Yohann, both French and touring the Mediterranean on their bikes for a few months.
So we sat and chatted about our various experiences and exchanged contact details. Really lovely people, I love this type of chance encounter.
Then it was mostly (not all) downhill with some serious hairpin bends and then, relax and eat, yay!
