#Day14 Some frustration

Demmin to Jordenstorf (or close by) 37km – due to a couple of wrong turns
25C
Terrain: very off-road and road

Ended up taking a full rest day yesterday in the end. I was in a nice place, it was going to be the hottest (33C) and most humid day of the year and felt like my body needed it.

Today started with about 10km of wonderful cycle routes, happy happy, happy. Followed by about 10km of cobbles, body not so happy but beautiful all the same.

I keep going through lovely nature reserves and love the signs that they have here.

My route for this adventure has largely been put together on google maps and has been pretty good so far bar the odd unexpected occurrence. Today for example, it took me to a swamp with no way through other than to teach Ironman Bob to swim through stagnant water, yuck, U-turn.

Another quite tricky bit Ironman Bob and I forced our way through, no swamp this time.

Pretty pleased with the distance today but at the expense of quite a lot of pain in my leg which am a little worried about. Towards the end it was difficult to walk so back on the anti-inflammatories.

Will see how it feels tomorrow but might need to take yet another day.  It’s frustrating because while physical fitness increases pretty quickly when you’re active pretty much every day, body can’t always keep up.

While I’m running/walking ‘slow and steady wins the race’ often pops into my head (although this challenge is more about completing than winning anything). This is a tough one for me as I’m pretty impatient (sadly not a virtue) and always want to push myself whether it be at work or sporting activities. Invariably there is a lot of internal negotiation in my head about the best course of action/distance etc.

I just need to keep reminding myself that there’s no point in covering a huge distance one day and then not being about to do anything for a few days.

Having reached Jordensdorf and after quite a bit of searching and taking a risk to walk to the middle of nowhere, I found a lovely little place to stay. Initially thinking it was closed, I was ready to camp in the garden but found the owner’s mother and again, in my terrible German explained what I was up to.  I think the place is pretty much closed but she very kindly brought me ice for my foot and made this wonderful platter, yummmm.

Will evaluate my foot tomorrow.
