#Day20 Rain, art and sea

Wismar to Klutz – 23km
25C
Terrain: undulating cycle paths

Set off from Wismar this morning in the middle of a thunder storm, entertained for the first couple of hours with lightning and rumbles.

Brilliant route today, all but about 1km was on wonderfully well kept cycle paths, very happy.

At one point I was happily running along in the rain with Bob, looked to my right, and there was the sea.

I love the sea, it’s just so calming, no matter the weather. Took a few moments to myself on the deserted beach and decided I would come back later. Also found out there was a bus, result (asking questions is certainly improving thanks to my daily “learning German” audiobook sessions). So, Bob has now taken his first bus (no cheating, I promise, in fact we went backwards along the route).

Arrived in Klutz, a small town with a castle but quiet (although it is a Sunday) and seemingly not much going on.

I then walk up one of the streets and came across a wonderful art gallery run by a chap called Georg. I’m certainly learning to expect the unexpected as wouldn’t have imagined this here.

Many beautiful things but the pieces of furniture in wood, I fell in love with (almost raw wood with the form and feeling of the tree still remaining). Turns out Georg makes them himself.

A really interesting chap, he’s cycled round most of Europe solo learning languages, exploring and working, best time of his life. At the moment, he lives in a caravan with his girlfriend and two kids while he renovates a house (learning all of the different crafts himself) and has his own chickens. He was frankly quite beautiful and had definite ‘yoga’ vibes. Very chilled and in no rush (his exact words when I mentioned that his beautiful furniture would look good in the Conran Shop in London!).

Back to the beach…

Certainly didn’t want to jump off the pier, hundreds and thousands of jelly fish…dry land for me

And to finish, a loving puddle

  49. Well, I don’t actually know a lot about it, but it really reminds me of a tale my professor one time shared with us: apparently, this thirteenth century English alchemist tried (in vain) to make gold from lead. He examined those ingredients so deeply, he evolved into an expert on both, and became rich as an official guide to the queen. Data was hard to come by in those days, far apart from nowadays with computer availability, and committed drivers etc. back then, once you realised something good, you could keep on counseling for a lifetime. But I digress. What I’m saying is that every now and then you come upon riches by simply attempting (and staying devoted to) something else, and thats just what happened to me once I accidentally got here. I was actually on the search for some technological records about driver updates when I began scouring the web, and got carried away…. Keep up the excellent work, and thanks for the article.
